Developing Your Professional Practice

Mediating Through Conflict

One of the realities of organizational life is that individuals can easily get into conflict situations with each other that they can’t handle on their own. This may be due to a lack of interpersonal skills on the part of one, or both of the parties. It may also be due to the situation the individuals find themselves in. Whatever the cause, there are some situations where managers need to intervene using conflict mediation.

This workshop is designed to equip participants with the foundational skills and knowledge necessary to facilitate a mediation between two or more staff members who are struggling to resolve conflict on their own. Participants will engage in a highly interactive day with many opportunities to practice new skills and receive coaching in a safe environment. This workshop is targeted to managers or supervisors and not mediation professionals.

Participants will leave this workshop with:

  • A clear understanding as to when to use a mediation process to resolve conflict
  • Clarity around a 5 Step Mediation Process, including tools, techniques and templates
  • Approaches to ensure participants manage their emotions and take appropriate ownership of issues
  • An array of facilitation techniques to keep the mediation on track
  • Strategies to deal with resistance and challenging behaviors in the mediation session
  • A model for coaching others to resolve conflict
  • Anyone who needs to support staff to resolve conflict such as HR Professionals, Team Leaders, Senior Leaders, School Principals, etc.

A workshop manual with a simply laid out process and many tools and techniques to both avoid having to mediate and supporting you when you do.
